Oceania Cruises Announces New 2016 Culinary Land Tour Series
The Culinary Creations Land Tours are a collection of multi-day pre-, post- and mid-cruise land excursions, designed to allow guests to meet local culinary experts, explore local food markets and restaurants, even visit cooking schools.
Starting in spring 2016, tours will be offered in Rome, Barcelona, Provence (Monte Carlo), Tuscany, Athens, London and Buenos Aires, during select sailings aboard Nautica, Marina, Riviera and Oceania’s newest ship, Sirena., a 684 passenger upper premium class vessel.
Jason Montague, President and COO of Oceania Cruises said this new program combines “two of our greatest strengths: developing rich shore experiences that bring the incredible destinations we visit to life, and creating the most engaging culinary enrichment programs at sea.”
Some highlights from the 2- and 3-day land tours include:
Provence (Monte Carlo)
During a three-night stay at a luxurious French château, guests will help prepare a traditional Provençal lunch using fresh ingredients from the chef’s gardens. Tours of nearby villages will include, of course, sampling of the local delicacies, an inside look at olive oil production, as well as learning about the varied and distinctive wines of the regional through tasting and touring.
Toasting in Tuscany (Rome/Civitavecchia)
Throughout a three-night stay, guests will prepare authentic Tuscan cuisine in a hands-on cooking class at a magnificent 13th century Italian villa. Additionally, guests will enjoy tours in Florence and Pisa, savoring the iconic masterpieces of art and architecture.
Greece (Athens)
During a two-night stay in Athens, guests will experience history and culture, as well as local food. After visiting an open-air Greek market and sampling locally made cheese and olives, guests prepare traditional Greek dishes alongside a noted Greek chef, and attend wine and ouzo tastings. The package includes entrance to the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum. The culinary experience continues with a food & wine pairing lunch at a Michelin star venue.
Brigade of London
Visits to food markets, gourmet shops and an historic wine and spirits shop are paired with traditional lunches and a hands-on cooking class. A highlight of this three-night land tour includes taking part in a Master Class cooking class and preparing a three-course classic British lunch.
